my father worked in an abattoir
The thread that connects this body of work is the aesthetic of slaughter. This exhibition explored HILLS' relationship with his paternal side, delving into a family history that honoured traditionally hyper-masculine roles. HILLS reflects upon the expectations of the masculine and the feminine placed on himself as a child, and its link to toxic masculinity.

exhibition installation images
The exhibition my father worked in an abattoir consisted of photographic, charcoal, and sculptural works all displayed underneath handmade slaughterhouse lights. The re-purposed meat lights created a pink glow that aesthetically tied the exhibition space together.
